Our lives need support from others to gain success. The book, On Course, consists of numerous habits and ideas on how we can achieve the fullest potential out of life. I believe that the most important idea I have learned from the book is employing interdependence because it allows me to increase the quality of my relationships and highlights my reliability to others.
First, employing interdependence is essential to increase the quality of any relationship. Employing interdependence consists of two main factors to develop mutually supportive relationships and strengthen relationships with active listening. Out of the two, the one main factor that can increase the quality of any relationship is strengthening relationships with active listening.
Active listening is the procedure of listening with the motive to understand the other person rather than thinking about ourselves and what we are going to say next. I believe that active listening strengthens relationships because, in the end, everyone feels heard and understood; in fact, this is the key to strengthen the trust within the relationships between individuals.
Second, employing interdependence is the key to individuals gaining the most out of life from others. The second main factor out of the two is to develop mutually supportive relationships which I believe is the main factor in proving to others how they can include everyone’s ideas. According to the book, how one can achieve the development of mutually supportive relationships is to reach out and utilize the resources that are offered.
I believe that this action of utilizing our resources can increase our trust with others and prove that we do include everyone. When we praise other’s ideas, they feel appreciated and included. This can increase the support within relationships.
How I have put this idea into the application for my own life is by utilizing it within my relationships and friendships. I actively listen to my friends whenever they are in need. When I actively listen to them, it alerts them that I am here for them for as long as we have. When I had first discovered the idea of active listening without realizing that it was an actual thing, it had helped me strengthen the friendships that supported me the most.
I also create mutually supportive relationships with most of my peers at school. Some of my classes are fairly difficult and most of my peers need mutual support. I reach out to them and helping them with whatever they need. I even give praise to their ideas and what this does is prove to my peers that I am mutually supportive. When my peers realize this, it increases the quality of the relationships I have with them.
The one thing I anticipate for any outcome from this idea of employing interdependence is to increase the value of my relationships and friendships. The value of my relationships with any other person is the most important thing to me. I care about others and mostly how they think of me as a friend, peer, or person.
This idea of employing interdependence is the most important idea I have learned from the book because it has benefited me and my needs when it comes to my relationships with others around me. I believe that the value and quality of the relationships people have with others is the ideal world that we all need.
