Equity & Diversity (2-Days)

STAY ON COURSE IN A DIVERSE WORLD WORKSHOP

Helping college educators implement On Course principles and practices with culturally diverse students

Our learners in higher education carry diverse perceptions and varied ways of creating meaning, and these often differ from those of the educator. The resulting differences create challenges for educators in meeting the needs of all students. In this 2-day workshop, participants have the opportunity to increase their own awareness about concepts related to cultural and learning diversity through discussion and interaction, as well as to identify the conditions and strategies necessary to create relevant and engaging lessons that enable diverse students to learn well together. Participants also explore the use of the On Course success principles and learner-centered instructional strategies to proactively strengthen culturally competent teaching skills. Incorporating equitable best practices honors the cultural experiences of learners, addresses systemic inequities, offers trauma-informed strategic support to learners and promotes greater opportunities for achieving educational success.

Thank you. I was looking for a re-inspiration to utilize and incorporate some On Course strategies involving a “subject” that is intertwined with everything–cultural diversity. I’m so excited to use [them] this fall. This solidified the On Course I & II Workshops I took earlier this year.– Kelli Horner, STEM Summer Bridge, Cabrillo College, CA

The workshop gave me more insight into what diversity entails–not just race, ethnicity, culture. I appreciate the list of resources very much! We want to include more on diversity/sensitivity in every college success course, so this was very timely for us.
– Lisa Marks, Reading/English/College Success, Ozarks Technical Community College, MO

Thank you–I enjoyed the workshop, have a great understanding of the term diversity, and feel empowered to use strategies to help our students be successful.– Verlinda Folgheraiter, Coordinator/TRIO, Northern Arizona University, AZ

I liked the many hands-on and group projects/discussions and the way in which the activities made me realize my own cultural influences.– Cheryl Norton, Reading, Southwestern Community College, CA
